Resources: Quick guide to ... trustees

2 mins read

1. Most trustees say their role is a challenge involving a great deal of fun and rewards. They come into contact with others who care about a common issue and who are doing something to improve other people's lives. Trustees may well be accepted onto an organisation's governing body or board of management because of their past experience, skills and interests. But they generally carry on learning a lot.

2. Don't be daunted by the legal and financial stuff you have to get your head round. The health and safety requirements and employment legislation can seem overwhelming if you are new to it. But it is finite, and there are people to help. Ask for training. You may be on a steep learning curve, but the curve should be a relatively short one. Willingness to work with others and identify and address the organisation's issues are most important.
