Modern photography is relatively low cost and the equipment is readily available. As part of a planned programme, taking pictures can give young people a result they will remember for a long time. Flash, bang, wallop what a quick guide.

1. Photography can give an extra edge to all kinds of youth work. Sessions on healthy eating, for example, can be more fun if young people are invited to take pictures of food that does and doesn't appeal to them. Topics such as sexual health, drugs, identity and relationships can be explored by young people capturing images that mean something to them.
