The industry says premiums have had to rise to cope with increasing numbers of claims, particularly for personal injury. But youth groups don't have to fold because of what everyone calls our "compensation culture". The best advice is to shop around, team up with others, and try the specialist brokers. Cover yourself with the quick guide.

1: If existing insurers are hiking up annual premiums, don't just pay up. Try contacting any organisation you are affiliated to for advice and check if it offers any special arrangements. The service operated by regional youth associations of UK Youth is particularly useful. If you qualify to join, you should be able to take advantage of special insurance rates arranged through the association's broker.
