RESOURCES: Quick guide to ... applying for lottery funding

2 mins read

There will never be enough money for all those who want it. And many good ideas and projects will have their applications turned down. But you can do things to increase the chances of success.

1. Stop calling it lottery money. If you are going to succeed in getting your share of this much sought after pool of cash, you need to sharpen up. Find out which of the well-organised grant givers with specific criteria your project is most suited to. Then use and understand their principles and terminology.

2. Decide how much you want. The main community fund, which used to be called the National Lottery charities board, is split into small (500-5,000), medium (less than 60,000) and large (more than 60,000) grants. Make sure you aim for the right target: www.community-fund.org.uk.
