Resources: Just Out - A round-up of new resources

www.selfharm.org.uk This site contains a wealth of information for young people and professionals alike. It includes a database of projects on self harm, while a map of the UK provides links to local services around the country. The information section looks at types of self harm, how common they are and why young people decide to harm themselves.

Learn the child: helping looked-after children to learn

This good practice guide for social workers, carers and teachers aims to deal with the problem of educational underachievement among children in care. The authors - one a foster carer who is also a social worker, and the other a special needs teacher - look at the behaviour of looked-after children, which has been identified as the greatest barrier to raising their achievement. The book features six cases studies on looked-after children, and a "nine-point curriculum" for working with traumatised children.
