Learn the child: helping looked-after children to learn
This good practice guide for social workers, carers and teachers aims to deal with the problem of educational underachievement among children in care. The authors - one a foster carer who is also a social worker, and the other a special needs teacher - look at the behaviour of looked-after children, which has been identified as the greatest barrier to raising their achievement. The book features six cases studies on looked-after children, and a "nine-point curriculum" for working with traumatised children.
