Only two per cent of young people think their local authority has any power, according to research, so the Local Government Association has produced this to explain why local government is relevant to young people in the build-up to Local Democracy Week (18-24 October). Designed for use by schools, local authorities and voluntary organisations, it features case studies from local authorities highlighting how they got young people involved in political life.
Fostering Now
Fergus Smith, Chris Brann, Deborah Cullen and Mary Lane aim to define the legislation and guidance that fostering social workers must be aware of. It's a companion volume to Adoption Now, published last year, and goes into detail about the duties of local authorities and their staff in relation to fostering laws. The Fostering Service Regulations 2002 and the national minimum standards for fostering providers are covered in detail.
