Resources: Funding Watch - The Yapp Charitable Trust

1 min read
What it is: This organisation is the result of a merger between The Yapp Welfare Trust and The Yapp Education and Research Trust. The trusts were set up in the will of William Johnston Yapp, who died in 1946. The scheme awards grants to small charities in England and Wales to help sustain their work. Trustees meet three times a year to consider applications. The next meeting is 30 September.

How much is on offer: The trust offers grants of up to 3,000 over a maximum of three years. Generally, there are between 90 and 100 grants a year; last year, grants totalled around 300,000.

What it will fund: Grants are given in a number of areas, including to sustain existing work with children and young people aged between five and 25, and to sustain small charities' work around education and learning. To be funded, work must have been in place for at least a year.

Who can apply: Charities must be at least three years old and have an overall expenditure of less than 60,000 a year. Priority is given to charities tackling work that is unattractive to the public or unpopular with other funders. It has a particular interest in charities that can demonstrate effective use of volunteers.
