Make it Happen is open now and will give out 1m over the next three years for projects, activities and equipment that are developed and run by young people aged 10 to 19. Money can be used for items such as travel, equipment, activity, staff costs and volunteer expenses. In a couple of months, Bridging the Gap will be launched and will help outreach and support services for the most disengaged young people and Reaching Out will support development projects that meet a clear gap in local services.
Who can apply? Make it Happen grants only go to groups working with young people, not individuals. They may be voluntary groups or statutory bodies, but the project or activity must have been planned and developed by young people. Applications from schools or statutory youth clubs will have to show that the activity is beyond those that normally go on within the school or club. For legal reasons, every group that receives a grant must have at least one person over the age of 18 on their management committee or apply through another organisation.
