Resources: Funding focus - Vocalise

1 min read

The aim is to encourage opportunities for young people to use their voices in music making, especially those who would otherwise not have the chance.

It could involve traditional choral singing but equally might feature beatboxing, rapping, gospel, musical theatre or any other vocal tradition.

What will it fund? Projects running for between six and 18 months that involve structured singing and develop music skills. They should offer opportunities for sharing achievements, for example through performance, and should be predominantly an out-of-school-hours activity. Projects should involve young people aged five to 18, with a priority being eight to 14. Other priorities include the involvement of boys and participants learning to lead activities such as warm-ups. Each project will need to be a "new and additional" piece of work for your organisation. There must be a music leader involved, who has experience of singing and of working with young people, and at least one paid trainee music leader who is not a project participant.
