Resources: Funding Focus - UnLtd

1 min read

What will it fund? Its awards provide genuine practical and financial support to social entrepreneurs to help turn their ideas for projects that benefit their community into reality. Level 1 awards help cover the initial running costs of new projects run by people in their spare time. Level 2 awards support projects that are already developed or pay for the living expenses of award winners to help them devote more time to their projects.

Who can apply? There's a handy eligibility test on the UnLtd web site. To get funding you'll need to be over 16, be able to show a need and that you will learn a new skill from running your project. In Northern Ireland, Mark McGivern received Level 1 funding for "Something to carp about", which enables young people from different communities to come together in a tranquil environment and learn fishing skills and environmental awareness. Gavin Russell from Bradford received a Level 2 award for a project to teach young people in the West Bowling area how to produce music in recording studios. The project includes a four-week community talent workshop and a talent-management enterprise supporting young singers and writers to gain employment contracts.
