What does it fund? There are six main open programmes, one of which is Young People. Indeed, guidance says work with young people "is at the very heart of Comic Relief". That said, it specifically reminds applicants that it does not fund general youth work. For the period 2005-08 there will be support for three areas of work with young people - those with mental health problems, those with alcohol problems, and those who are abused through prostitution and trafficking. In the first two areas the focus will be on the recruitment and training of specialist staff and improving access to services; in the latter on outreach and centre-based services providing practical and emotional support.
