Who is it for? All young people and those who work with them. Preference will be given to projects that help young people who face social exclusion, disadvantage - including social, economic or educational deprivation, physical or mental ability, geographical isolation, belonging to an ethnic or religious minority, or gender inequality - or to individuals who would not normally get the opportunity to take part in such projects.

There must be clear and achievable learning objectives and young people must be involved at all stages. There is also support for shorter contact visits and "special projects" such as job shadowing and training events. One typical project is the exchange between Shantallow Youth Centre in Derry and Wrexham Youth Service. This focused on a video project on drugs and substance misuse and enabled young people with low achievement in formal education to undergo a more experiential form of learning. The groups co-operated extremely well and showed "maturity and dignity" in their dealings with authority and in the face of some antagonism.
