Resources: And this is what I do - Rachael Gray, Gateshead Council

1 min read

What does your work involve? I work in the youth and community learning service. I help the council in its role as a Beacon Council for positive youth engagement by working with three different groups: with the young people deciding on the Youth Opportunity Fund and Youth Capital Fund and those working on Breakthru magazine, which is written by young people, as well as those working on the council's weblog. I provide support for the young people working in those areas by making sure they understand what they're doing and have everything they need to do it.

How did you get into this? I volunteered for at least six years with various council-run youth groups and on Breakthru magazine. Before that, I was a regular member at Gateshead's youth centre in Lobley Hill. Then this opportunity came along and I decided to give it a go.
