What is the aim of your job? As part of the referral order team, I help divert young people away from crime and antisocial behaviour. I work with 10- to 18-year-olds who are first-time offenders who have pleaded guilty. We try to empower them by giving them skills and knowledge so they can make better choices in the future.
What does it involve? I work within the principles of restorative justice, which calls for young people to take responsibility for their actions.
I supervise the young clients to make sure they comply with any orders that they have, and reduce the risk of further offending by finding them opportunities including training or employment. More than 90 per cent of our clients get work or training if they are not already in it.
