Some of the boys are living in some of the worst conditions in east London.

What does the role involve? In a nutshell my role is to look at what obstacles there are to learning or better attendance and to overcome them. If you have a young man who has an anxious attachment to his mother and doesn't want to leave her, I put measures in place to make sure he is more at ease, such as ringing her from my office intermittently so he knows she's fine.

- How did you get into this?

I used to work in a secure training centre with young offenders but wanted to go back to pre-custody. Someone I had worked with previously asked me to come here to do some consultancy work and then the role began to grow from there.
