Why is there a need for this type of training? Before the course there was no academic qualification for workers and we were worried about the quality of the information and skills that are being used because a lot of people are doing this work informally. Also, young people want to discuss the emotional side of relationships and there are some youth workers out there who are imposing their own values.
How will it help youth workers? It builds confidence - people might be scared. They know the information is correct and up to date and they're more aware of the issues. It gives youth workers the opportunity to try out exercises, to try new things and make mistakes.
