Three-quarters of NHS trusts' patient advice and liaison services (Pals) are failing to actively involve children and young people, according to a survey.
The Department of Health-funded online survey of Pals teams, carried out by the National Children's Bureau and Pals Online, found many believed engaging with children and young people was not even part of their remit.
This comes despite a Department of Health resource pack made from 2002 called Supporting the Implementation of Patient Advice and Liaison Services, which clearly spells out that Pals need to "play an active role" in ensuring "children are heard and that services meet their needs".
