Every NHS trust has a Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) - a confidential service for patients, relatives and carers providing information, advice and support.
PALS offer an excellent opportunity for young people to have a voice in their healthcare, leading to better health outcomes both now and in the future. Yet research by York University and NCB has shown that most PALS are not engaging with children and young people at all.
In response to this, NCB was awarded funding from the Department of Health (DH) to run PALS: Getting it Right for Children and Young People. The three-year project will finish at the end of March 2010. Its key outputs are:
