Reliance, which already transports the country's adult prisoners to and from jail, police stations and courts, made headlines in 2004 when a number of prisoners under its care absconded. The company has now been given a three-year contract by the Scottish Government to take young people sentenced by the courts to and from secure units.
Children's commissioner Kathleen Marshall said: "Procedures for transferring children and young people must safeguard their welfare and rights. I'd like assurances that all children and young people are accompanied by their social worker or another known adult when being taken to a secure unit for the first time.
