REGENERATION: Youth facilities get 1m in Lancashire

The aim of the Rossendale Youth Provision Strategy is to develop 12 sites over the next three years to ease conflict between local people who need facilities and local residents who complain about youth nuisance.

It is backed by Lancashire County Council's youth and community service, the local police, Rossendale Borough Council, YouthWorks, an organisation for at-risk young people, and regeneration charity Groundwork.

Ian McArthur, regional director at Groundwork, said: "It's absolutely crucial that young people are involved as part of the solution to local community problems, not seen as a problem in themselves." There will be a feature on young people and regeneration in the 16-22 July issue of YPN.
