Rachael Clawson, Safeguarding disabled children co-ordinator, Ann Craft Trust

1 min read
My position is a new post for the Ann Craft Trust, focusing solely on children. Our work had been more adult-focused, but since April we have had funding for children's work.

The trust was set up in 1992 in recognition of the abuse of people with learning disabilities. We are based at the University of Nottingham.

The work is strategic, and I don't work directly with adults or children. But I am a qualified social worker and have worked as a child-protection social worker with disabled and non-disabled children. In this capacity, I wrote a chapter for an academic text book, and came into contact with the trust, and I was impressed with its work.

When I was working for a local authority, I sometimes felt like I was beating my head against a brick wall. To be able to put the issues on to a national level is a huge step forward.
