Sarah Timson, Co-ordinator for Southwark Youth Providers Network

1 min read Youth Work
My position was created to help youth providers in the voluntary and statutory sectors communicate better with each other.

In Southwark, there are between 100 and 150 different organisations catering to the needs of young people. This includes voluntary and maintained organisations such as art and theatre groups, the youth offending team, community games, faith and minority groups, general youth provision and the police.

Southwark is a big borough, stretching from the Thames to Dulwich, and there is a lot going on. With so many groups, it is important to encourage partnership to ensure that young people are presented with the best possible outcomes. In practical terms, this involves organising and supporting regular meetings aligned to the community council boundaries, where the various groups can come together.
