Goals: To positively engage young people through sport and education
Funding: 300,000 a year from sources including Positive Futures, the New Deal for Communities and the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund
Vulnerable young people on Teesside in the northeast of England are having fun and becoming re-engaged with society through a local basketball programme.
Teesside Positive Futures is run by Hoop Dreams, a partnership between the police and professional basketball club Teesside Mohawks.
It is one of seven Positive Futures projects run by Hoop Dreams.
Much of the work is detached. Once young people are engaged, the players and coaches encourage them to get more involved in the project's mainstream programme.
