Goals: To motivate 15- to 17-year-old offenders by training them in construction skills
Funding: Funding totalling 40,000 was received from Essex Youth Offending Service, Essex Crime and Disorder Reduction Unit, the Government Office for the East of England, the Construction Industry Trust for Youth and Essex Council for Voluntary Youth Services
Essex Youthbuild gives young offenders a motivating route into skilled employment in the construction industry. It was officially launched two months ago by Essex Youth Offending Service's intensive supervision and surveillance programme (ISSP) team and Essex Council for Voluntary Youth Services.
The project provides training and a structured and supportive learning environment for 15- to 17-year-olds on ISSPs, a community sentence for persistent young offenders. Fifteen young people have benefited since it started as a pilot in July last year.
