Goals: To re-engage 16-year-olds who are likely to lose contact with education, employment and training

Funding: Received a total of 38m from the Big Lottery Fund, formerly the New Opportunities Fund, and additional money from corporate sponsor Barclays over the past three years

The Uproject was set up three years ago to help young people considered at risk of falling into unemployment. Under the scheme, the young people attend a series of introductory sessions where they take part in teambuilding exercises and get to meet other teenagers in similar situations. At the end of the sessions, the groups go away for a week where they take part in activities such as mountain walking and arts workshops.
