Organisations, including British Youth Council, Leap Confronting Conflict and Young Scot, gave talks on engaging the media, while young people gave inspiring speeches about their media experiences. I was one of the young guest speakers and I proudly presented a DVD created by Shine to showcase some of the achievements of young people celebrated in 2009.
Young people had a selection of workshops to choose from, such as How to Get Your Story into Mainstream News, How to Build Audience Numbers, Imaginative Fundraising and Viral Campaigning. I attended a workshop by Matt Jarratt from Social Enterprise London. He took us through the ways a youth-led organisation can become a social enterprise. Participants were then asked to work out an action plan for their organisation. I don't currently run a youth-led organisation, but I took this as an opportunity to find out about other projects. It was amazing what these young people were doing and how they were pushing to go even further.
