It is the second day of the Bodyworks workshop, a five-day course where teenagers learn about massage as well as about nutrition and anatomy. Sam Williams, a co-founder of The Wellbeing Trust, which runs the programme, says the course is a good way to teach young people how to relax. "Growing up is a stressful time," she says. "Young people have to cope with exams and other pressures. They are always on edge and feel they can never let their guard down."
This stress often manifests itself in parts of their bodies such as their back and shoulders. Williams says she is alarmed at just how tense teenagers can be. "Some of their shoulders are easily as bad as the adults I work with," she says. "Their muscles can be very tight."
