But gradually she lets her body drop, arches her back and raises her arms and legs. Within a split second she is airborne, floating on a column of air with only her instructor's light grip for support.
Jessica is one of 10 young people from the St John's Wood-based Crypt Youth Club visiting Bodyflight, an indoor skydiving centre in Bedfordshire.
She is here as part of the north London youth centre's Positive Activities for Young People (PAYP) summer programme.
Different experience
Pam Bell, acting senior youth worker at the Crypt Youth Club, says the centre wanted to take the young people somewhere a little different this summer. "Young people are under so much pressure these days," she says.
