According to a survey by research group Ipsos Mori, fear of crime has reduced by 51 per cent since Positive Futures Lambeth and Southwark started work in the area in 2002.
Gary Stannett, director of Positive Futures at Crime Concern, which manages the programme for the Home Office, said: "What separates the work in Lambeth and Southwark from a lot of other programmes is the degree of partnership."
Lambeth council has agreed to put 300,000 over three years into the work in the south, and the Football Foundation has put in 250,000 over three years.
