The figures show that between 2002, when Positive Futures Lambeth was set up, and 2006 the proportion of residents on the Aylesbury Estate concerned about being mugged or robbed dropped from 51 per cent to 23 per cent.
The figures for residents considering drug dealing and drug use to be a serious problem also fell from 52 per cent to 30 per cent.
Those worried about teenagers hanging around on the streets dropped from 56 per cent in 2002 to 21 per cent in 2006.
Gary Stannett, director of Positive Futures at Crime Concern, says residents' fear of crime had been greater than the actual risk, but activities provided for young people changed their perceptions.
