Politics: Children's legislation features in Queen's Speech

1 min read
Education, childcare and child protection feature prominently in todays Queens Speech (Tuesday, 17 May).

Legislation to offer greater support for working families by extending maternity benefits and improving the provision of childcare was announced, as was an Education Bill to improve quality and choice in the provision of schooling.

The Children (Contact) and Adoption Bill, first published in February, was reintroduced. It is designed to safeguard the welfare of children when their parents separate and to improve the process of inter-country adoption.
