"My government will ban the wearing of hoodies..." Don't take the mick, you are showing Her Majesty no respect. And that, of course, is one of the main themes of this forthcoming session of Parliament. It's a long session running from now until November 2006, and the Government aims to get some 45 bills under way.
OK, so what do I need to know about? The Queen's Speech referred to "creating safe and secure communities", and promised a bill to give "police and local communities" new powers to tackle knives, guns and alcohol-related violence. The minimum age for buying a knife will rise from 16 to 18, head teachers will get new powers to search pupils, there will be greater regulation of rowdy pubs and there will be harsher bans for pubs selling alcohol to under-18s.
