An interim report from the Cabinet Office and Treasury review The future role of the third sector in social and economic regeneration, issued alongside the Chancellors pre-Budget report today, states that voluntary sector organisations should receive three-year funding in the majority of cases. It also announces a 30m fund to help organisations take over community assets such as youth clubs, a move flagged up in the recent local government white paper.
Chancellor Gordon Brown told Parliament: We propose more stability in funding for third sector success, particularly for small, local organisations.
Ellie Rose, policy officer at the National Council for Voluntary Youth Services, said: Theres a lot to be welcomed in the report and we are pleased that three year funding will be the norm rather than the exception. But it could have gone even further, and put funding on a par with contracts awarded to private sector companies which can be for five or even ten years.
