Policy Proposals: What the main parties say

5 mins read Youth Work
So which of the political parties has the best youth policies? Here we ask the Conservatives, Labour and the Liberal Democrats to set out their visions to improve young people's services and the lives of teenagers.

LABOUR - Dawn Primarolo, minister for children, young people and families

We believe in young people and we will support them. That's why we have acted to challenge the unfair stereotypes of young people in the media - for example through the Youth Media Fund and Shine - and why we have reversed decades of chronic under-funding in our youth services, stimulating positive change with more than £900m of investment since 1997.

It is why we are putting £270m into the Myplace fund to create 70 new world-class facilities for young people: three are already open and a further seven should be in operation by the end of the summer. This is in addition to the £120m of youth capital fund money that has helped to open or refurbish more than 100 new great places for young people to go in the 50 most deprived areas.
