The trust's founder patron, Cath Hall, had for years been concerned that heterosexual foster carers could not meet the whole range of needs of lesbian, gay and bisexual young people. Albert's boyfriend at the time was in foster care with Cath. Albert's death spurred her on to work with Manchester's gay community to establish the trust.
The trust provides a supported lodgings service to lesbian, gay and bisexual 16- and 17-year-olds and works with social services to support foster placements of those under 16. This means matching young people with gay and lesbian households that have gone through a six-month training, assessment and approval process. The quality framework for this has been devised in partnership with NCH and the Fostering Network.
