Children receive an average of 3.43 in pocket money each week, according to a survey of 600 children carried out by 4Children.

The charity's annual Buzz Survey showed that sweets, computer games and toys are the most popular purchases for 10 per cent of those surveyed. Other popular buys include clothes, jewellery, make-up and trainers (five per cent), cards such as Pokemon, Pogs and Yu-Gi-Oh! (four per cent), and "football stuff" (four per cent).
