THE DILEMMA

A social work team manager realises that one of her staff members is notrecording new referral information on child protection case filesproperly. She explains why taking formal disciplinary action was a toughdecision.

I'd recently been promoted to team manager in a specialist childprotection team. It became apparent that a team member, whom I hadpreviously worked alongside as a colleague before my promotion and whohad been a personal friend, had problems in following policy.

Recording information on new cases referred to the team about childrenat risk of abuse was not being done on time.
