A senior duty and assessment practitioner relates how she had to battle indifference from managers and colleagues to get a serious assault prosecuted

A number of years ago I worked with a family who had a long and difficult history with social services. On occasions our involvement was to offer support and advice, at other times it was to address child protection issues. The mother was known to be volatile and, sometimes, aggressive and confrontational. So when I became involved I was under no illusion that I would be the person to change the mother's attitude about social workers.
