A Black pupil in a predominantly White school is at risk of exclusion but the school refuses to acknowledge that race is a factor.
An education support worker from a racial equality organisation tells of the impact an unwillingness to acknowledge racial issues can have on a young life.
A parent came to see us about her son. He was 11 and had just started secondary school, but he was having behaviour problems.
There were incidences the school reported as "bullying" but, in a lot of cases, they appeared to be a result of provocation where the child was responding to racist comments.
However, the main issue was his failure to pay attention in class. He wouldn't talk, answer questions, or put his hand up. When he was confronted about it he would react badly.
