What do you do if you discover that children placed in the care of their grandparents are witnessing domestic abuse? A family counsellor explains how she worked with the children's parents to ensure the children were removed from this potentially harmful situation.

A family - a mum, dad, daughter aged eight, and son aged six - came to me because of concerns about the son's behaviour. The parents had noticed a change and his teachers also reported he was not paying attention, had become short-tempered and sometimes quite nasty. The parents' work commitments meant that the children were being cared for by their dad's parents two or three times a week.
