Lack of help with the cost of school clothing can be a problem for parents on low incomes. One difficult case handled by my Citizens Advice Bureau was that of a lone mother on income support with considerable debts.
Her son started at a secondary school where the uniform was expensive and was given a letter saying he could be separated from class or sent home if he didn't wear the right blazer.
