How can you persuade young offenders to change their ways? A former youth offending team worker explains how a restorative approach changed the lives of four teenage girls.

When I was a worker with a youth offending team in the North West, we always tried to take a restorative approach in our youth justice panels, even in serious cases.

There was one particularly bad incident when a guy in his late 20s was jumped on by a gang of 11 teenagers, four of whom were girls aged 14 to 16. He suffered serious head injuries and ended up on a life-support machine in hospital for a long time. He came close to death.
