But don't bother sitting down to read this unless you've a passionate interest in learning and skills, prodigious recall of the sector's acronyms and an ability to process a massive amount of charts and statistics.

This is a smorgasbord of research data, bringing together what organisations financed by the Learning and Skills Council have achieved. Spending was some 10.4bn in the year to March 2006, about half of which was on further education, followed by school sixth forms, work-based learning, Apprenticeships and Entry to Employment.
