Will this give people more crime fighting cash? No. It's not new money but it is a new way of delivering existing money that should give more local flexibility.
And it was previously known as ...? The fund brings together the Safer Communities Initiative, Communities Against Drugs and the Partnership Development Fund. These are quite substantial sums: for 2003-4 we're talking 72.3m going out to Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships (CDRPs). The Government announced the intention to create the fund in January and has been consulting with CDRPs, Drug Action Teams and other stakeholders since then. Money has been available through the old system since the beginning of this financial year, but it was only on 10 June that the Home Office minister Bob Ainsworth was able to announce the single pot.
