Who can apply? Anyone who can contribute to the aims of the scheme. Some grants may go towards direct police work, or towards structural measures such as CCTV cameras, while other funding might be directed to a warden scheme or a project specifically addressing youth crime. Each CDRP has a great deal of flexibility over how it spends the money, but its strategy must be approved by the local police and drug action team.
In Nottinghamshire, Broxtowe CDRP used money from the Building Safer Communities Fund for the Rise project, which runs DJing sessions and other arts-based activities for young people, with the aim of reducing substance misuse. The fund is meant to provide services to the community that would not otherwise be provided and so can't be used to replace or shore up mainstream local funding.
