Playworkers: SkillsActive plans specialist training

Thousands of playworkers will be able to specialise in areas such as working with disabled children following changes to national occupational standards.

Currently, playworkers must follow set curricula, under SkillsActive'sPlaywork Level 2 National Occupational Standards. But under draft plansSkillsActive hopes to implement by the end of the year, workers willselect optional units to reflect local needs and their owninterests.

Paul Bonel, head of playwork at SkillsActive, said: "It will giveplayworkers a more focused qualification for the area they work in. It'srecognising the different ways of working with children."
