1 min read
The first UK-wide strategy to improve the playwork profession will push for proper pay scales, more training and equal status with other children's workers.

It promises national centres for playwork education and training, doublethe number of qualified trainers and a sector qualificationsstrategy.

The strategy has been led by SkillsActive, the sector skills council forplay, and follows extensive consultation.

Children Now has seen a copy of the final document, which has yet to bepublished. It sets out a 10-year vision with a five-year implementationplan, which looks at professional status, training and qualifications'support for the sector and working with other sectors.

Goals include pay and conditions that compare to other children'sworkers and minimum standards for training and qualifications. It alsolooks at how to build a support infrastructure and draw down morefunding from government and employers. Children and young people shouldbe closely involved in developing and evaluating training, it says.
