Playground games Physical activity with a difference in Gateshead

A pilot scheme in Gateshead is helping schoolchildren get into sport. The FunFit project aims to increase activity levels among seven- to 11-year-olds and targets children who do not enjoy traditional PE lessons by providing activities such as group skipping and Frisbee. The initiative has been designed by the Gateshead School Sport Partnership with other services including Gateshead Primary Care Trust. Paul Carvin, head of raising achievement at Gateshead Council, said: "It is about making the whole thing fun so children who don't enjoy PE don't miss out."
