The National Council for Voluntary Youth Services is setting up a youthsector sports development unit with 750,000 from SportEngland.
The unit aims to get more children and young people playing sport - bothcompetitive and non competitive - and help youth clubs to increase theamount of sport they can offer. It will have four staff managed by thecouncil and will begin work in December. It will focus on youth clubsrather than sports clubs affiliated to sports governing bodies.
Nigel Moore, senior development manager (clubs) at Sport England, saidthe unit would try to shape policy to promote sport in youth clubs, helpclubs share good ideas and look at how clubs could get funding from thepublic and private sectors.
