Play strategies: Councils urged to join national audit

Councils across England are being urged to participate in a nationwide audit of local authority play strategies that could influence the way lottery cash is distributed.

The Children's Play Council has commissioned the survey of all 450councils as part of development work ahead of the lottery's 155mfund for children's play.

"At present there is a very limited knowledge of the extent to whichplay strategies have been developed," said Paul Greatorex of consultancyLeisure and the Environment, which will start the audit next week.

He said the audit would help identify areas of the country where playstrategies were least well developed and extra funding most needed, aswell as examples of good work.
